Life Update

Hey Everyone!

Just wanted to give out a little update on what's going on the life of Fran that's keeping me from sharing projects more regularly. It looks like I do have Carpel Tunnel Syndrome, and its gotten too much for me to bear by myself. I finally got a doctor's appointment and was given proper medication, so now I'm resting up as much as I can. I won't be screen printing at work anymore but the company I work for is so awesome that they are working to relocate me to another position that won't strain my hands so much. I'm really looking forward to shaking this off and getting back to work on all my projects. I'm also going to be looking into cons to get tables at next year since life got in my way for showing at cons this year :/ But if anyone is going to Nekocon in November you may see me bouncing around in a DogTeir Jade cosplay for sure!

So I will be trying to rest up, and take care of business, so that I will have more lovely art and comics to share with you soon~
Thanks for sticking with me!

I also tried to dye my hair purple. It's barely noticeable ;3;

Colored Pencil Alchemy

Greetings everyone!
I was going to wait until the weekend to post but I thought I'd give you an early Labor Day treat. I realized recently that I hadn't posted any of the more time consuming illustrations that I had done for my Elder Scrolls Art Book project so I thought I'd share one with you today.

This one is of my Skyrim favorite, Merion the Lioness. She's not very good at Alchemy, and can only really make basic healing potions, so here she is slaving over an Alchemy table trying everything in her inventory to gain stats or make something she can at least sell. For this one I decided to use some earthy brown paper I picked up at Micheal's on clearance. I was eager to try some lighting effects with colored pencils and ink for contrast. I'm quite happy with it. I used this paper for a few of the illustrations so far but I will also be mixing it up with some watercolor and digital illustrations as well.

Stay tuned for more! I have a three day weekend coming up. Which means lots of time for working on projects so I'll have more to share coming up!

Sketches and Sphinxes

Hello everyone!
I was finally able to quit my weekend job so I'll have more time for art (and unpacking at the new house)! I can finally get going on more projects, I'm so excited! In the mean time here are some recent sketches from my sketchbook.

A sketch of happy Lor the Gravedigger. I hadn't drawn her in a while and it felt good to ink something traditionally. I used blue pencil and Staedtler 'triplus fineliner.' They are fun pens.

A more serious/unamused Lor, featuring a new tunic and Roman inspired chest plate armor. I figure this is her later in her adventures.

Also from Lor's story. Sphinx ladies! I've got some more sketches of them to post later but I need to study more animal references for them. The top is a new sphinx while the bottom features a sassy looking Karah.

More art to come as my weekends are now free!

A humble comic offering...

Hey everyone!

Work has been going well but my efforts to move to the new house have been slowing me down. Also being tired from work is not helping in the art department of me 'getting things done'. So while I'm out I thought I'd leave you guys with a textless colored page from a Skyrim comic I was working on a while ago. I'm still hoping to finish it. It takes place during the "With Friends Like These..." questline and follows my main Skyrim character, Merion the Lioness.

I'm hoping to scan more sketchbook pages this weekend after work as well as more packing >_>
I can't wait to get back to painting and working on books!

Cville Art Blog reviews Alencia

Hello everyone!

While I've been working overtime at my new day job a new mile stone has happened for me! A local art-scene blog, C-ville Art Blog, has written up a review of my comic "Alencia: A Noble Deed." This is the first time anyone has taken the time to review and critique my comic work, and I'm very happy for the experience. They purchased the comic at Telegraph Gallery, which if you find yourself in Charlottesville you really should go visit. It's one of my favorite places in town!

Check out the review here!

"She leads the viewer through each moment of the story effortlessly. Rowan shows us around each scene using shifting aspects to build suspense as the undead creep from their graves. The drawings and panel compositions direct the viewers to each important moment as it happens, without relying on narration or predictably consistent jumps in time."

This makes me even more excited for the work I've been doing for the next story! As for that it's all inked, I'm just working on toning (when I can between work and moving, it's at a standstill right now) but I'm hoping to get moving on that soon. I've also been looking into getting an small press table at RVACon in late September. If I can get a space there then I'm aiming to have the comic ready in time for it. More news as it comes!

From the Pages of Weekend Shifts

This is going to be a tough month indeed.
Still got my weekend job, and the full time job is going great! Time really passes by quickly when working on orders which is great. I'm going on a full week of being under the weather tho. The only time I've had for art is drawing while at my weekend job. Here are a few (unintentionally tiny) scans of some sketchbook pages from my weekend shifts.

Sketches of my sneaky Khajit battle-mage, Frejah.

I bought myself a purse on ebay the other day. I wanted something that looked like a hobbit might take on a adventure, and keep snacks for the road in. I found such a purse and then decided to draw a little adventuring inventory page for it via Hchom. I love her blog and illustrated lists. Her inventories and food drawings are so charming that I had to give it a try myself. They are additively fun to do. Also drew myself as a Victorian inspired Dwarf. Because why not.

A little doodle of myself in some of my favorite clothes, and a Hchom inspired utility apron that I really want to make.

Four pages (out of like... 9) featuring Lor the Gravedigger and her new friend Karah the Sphinx. In this story rather than Sphinx being natural creatures they are constructs that can only be created by powerful Mages. Karah was created by a talented young mage but he wasn't quite good enough yet so she turned out to be a runt with deformed wings. Now she follows Lor around. I was playing with her mannerisms like her bringing Lor little 'gifts' like dead animals. I also couldn't stop drawing them sleeping. I guess I was tired myself.

I'll try to post more as I get the chance!

Digital Love

I'm still busy packing for the move so in the mean time here are some digital doodles I've been working on now that my new computer and programs are up and running.

A drawing prompt from El Goro for the steampunk story we've been working on together. The gun turret on the ship has malfunctioned causing a comical backlash of soot. It will show better once it's colored.

Layla, from the steampunk story, at 50 years old. She's gone blind by this point. I need to gather some more references for her.

Joke gift for my RP buddy Seir of our Werewolf Apocalypse characters.

And now for a colored piece! A portrait of my newest Skyrim character Frejah. I'd been wanting to play a Khajit and a mage for a while so now I am! She came out much cuter than I expected :P
