Sketch Dump #2- Life Drawing, ATCs and sketches

Guess who's scanner is working! 8D
(One NSFW drawing near the end of this post-male frontal nudity)

These were actually done a little bit before Christmas. I enjoyed drawing Alencia with the holly and honey nut cake. For some reason really old or traditional European takes on Christmas and Yule make me really cheery for the holidays. I think it's because there isn't any commercialism in imagining loved ones around a fire place enjoying traditional, simple food and each other's company.

Kale ATC set. The last one is actually incomplete as I have yet to decide on a back ground for it. Kale's card is actually painted with a bright bronze acrylic paint. I wanted a Byzantine feel to it. I was also going to write something on her flag but I may just leave it. Also for some reason I felt inclined to draw Evander, the usually bright and cheery bard, looking very sad. I'll have to do a happier one later to balance this one out.

Hanna ATCs by ~Spork-Bunny on deviantART
An ATC set I did for a comic artist, Tessa Stone, in honor of her comic "Hanna is not a boy's name." I LOVE this comic. FEIRCE.

My WWA character working as a Burlesque dancer. I was mainly testing out costume ideas. I went for a more vintage pin-up feel with her outfit here.

(NSFW) NUDE SOCA SKETCHES

I like this one a lot because its' the most precise out of the set for that night. It was done with .01 micron pen and no pencil. I also like that you can see the previous sketch through the paper, which was done with a brush pen. The pages of this sketchbook are very thin, but I like them.

While at home I started doing sketches of things in the room to fill a whole page with. This is my parents living room. (Like a collage sketch)

Published

A few weeks ago I was contacted on flikr and asked if I would submit one of my photos I took of Maymont park to possibly be published in "Schmap Richmond Tenth Edition" which is a guide about Richmond. I said sure and told them how I wanted to be credited (since they asked). I got an email today saying that my photo was chosen and can be viewed here
Looks like it will be a part of an iphone app. Cool :)

Here's the photo by itself:

Poster WIP

Have a poorly lit WIP photo!

New cover/poster art for Kale comic. I don't like the old cover anymore :/
I think some of the anatomy is a bit screwy, like Kale's legs. My eyes are tired right now so I'll take another look at it tomorrow with fresh eyes and edit/finish it.

My scanner is still out of commission but my parents are visiting me this Saturday and will be bringing the installation disk with them. Then I shall scan things! :D I have some sketchbook pages mostly. I should have done some comic pages over the weekend but didn't. I'll try to this weekend. I've also got some 'Or Maybe Not' scripts so some of those comic pages may be coming up. I'm enjoying my classes pretty well but I don't get to see my friends a lot since I don't have any classes at our department building. I'm also trying to lay off the Mountain Dew lately so my energy level during the afternoon has gone down. I've been coping tho. Speaking of which, I need a nap. More art to coming soon!

Happy Early Birthday Sarah!

A drawing I did of Sarah's WWA RP character, Perry. I adore drawing him and this contains inside jokes. And he's missing a canine tooth but I think I did the wrong one :P ooops. I meant to draw this for her ages ago but her birthday is on the 1st of February so I did it as an early B-Day gift.

Done with Copic makers and Sakura micron pens. And for some reason the pens were smearing with the Copics which has not happened to me before. I guess I need to invest in some Copic multiliners :/ Good thing my own birthday is around the corner, I can justify buying them.

First Sketch Dump of 2010!

Time for sketches!

Kale Sketches:

Werewolf Apocalypse OC "Lou"

Slayers/Uta Fanart for Ryan. WIP

SCION sketch medley

I feel like I had more to post but I don't seem to. Other than the Kale comic pages I haven't had a lot of time/energy to do other drawings, save for sketches. I met my goal for the comic (to finish between 10-14 pages by the time school starts). I got to 14 and finished the first chapter. It feels good to have deadlines and meet them :)

Artist Spotlight: Steven Yarbrough

Recently I decided to order a commission of my current favorite original character, Kale, from an artist I like as a birthday present to myself. I thought, 'who would do a good job representing her?' and I thought of Self-Replica of Deviantart. Self-Replica, aka Steven Yarbrough, was doing a now completed series of FFXI fan-service illustrations that, while I'm not a big fan-service fan I thought his drawings showed character and personality that overshadowed the T&A. These and his fantasy based artwork made me confident that he was the man for the job.

He was great at communication and never left me hanging. He answered all my questions and was very polite and professional. His prices were very fair/affordable. He worked with me to give me a commission that I would be proud of. And I am.

Kale Preview!

I'm not feeling too good today so my progress on pages is slowing down (I started page 9 last night but didn't have the energy to finish it. I'll try to tonight.) So I thought I'd make a little preview of some of the panels from the pages I have finished.

I've also drawn and inked the cover of the book and just have to color it and add the logo after I tweak it (thanks for the critique LostReach!) I am going to color it digitally however and I've left my tablet back in Richmond (another good reason to be glad that thug couldn't break into my room!) so I'm going to color it when I get back. I also want to add a texture to it which I've never done before so that should be fun.

I've also been making plans on other things to sell at Nekocon and I'm going to try a second book of other comics I've done including a short story that Ryan is turing into a script and some 'Or Maybe Not' comics, including new ones. It's not set in stone yet but we are going to try to do his short story. It's a romance C: I've also found these self laminating ID badges that you can attach to bags at Big Lots for $1 for a pack of two. I bought a bunch and plan to make lolita con badges and custom ones that I can make at the con. I made a Conqur one for Ryan (Conqur is his B movie monster he did some movies about) and a Spork-Bunny one for me as examples. (I'll post photos later as I may do more.) I've also been planning how I'll set up the table at the con and what displays I'll use. I've been researching all of this for a long time, I just hope it goes down well. I'll also be making business cards for me and Ryan and a poster advertising his services as a camera operator/film editor/writer. He'll also have my laptop set up (hopefully) and running his demo reel with a bunch of short films he made and will be selling there too.

Needless to say, I'm very excited! I've been stalking the Nekocon 13 page already. I'll just have to keep doing so through spring to snag tickets and a table. Then book a hotel. Good thing I've started saving already :P

Well, back to work for me. Have a good weekend everyone!

Logo

Today I did some work on the cover to my Kale comic and then realized that I should have a neat typeface logo for it. Then using what I learned from my design, typography, and software classes I put together some logo ideas in Illustrator after doing some thumbnail sketches. It feels good to put what I've learned at VCU to good use, and for personal work.

I'm leaning towards this one right now.

Any critiques are welcomed.

7 Year Retrospective

I did this meme that's been going around on Deviant art. It really does help you see where you've improved and how far you've come. It was cool seeing friends and artists I admire doing it.

2003-2009 Improvement Meme by ~Spork-Bunny on deviantART

It's nice to know that I'm steadily improving as the years go on :)

Kale comic progress:

(all pages need text)
Cover: inked/finish background
Logo: done!
Pages 1-8: 90% done (finish a few backgrounds on 2 pages)
40 pages to go for complete book
My deadline: Completely finish by October 1st, 2010 in order to publish with Ka-Blam and to be in time for Nekocon 13 (November 5th-7th, 2010).
