DDDDD: This is taking so long! But we are getting there. After all, it is a labor of love <3

Painting Class Samples
OMG guys, something NOT Kale related?!
Anyhoo, I'm on a total happyness high from my painting class today :D So far we've been bringing in objects that are all different, doing painting studies based on them, and doing paintings in class, while solving a problem (hot vs. cold, filling the canvas, using BIG BRUSHES). I didn't take a photo of the first two I did because they were AWEFUL. So here are the ones I've gotten so far.
This was Hot vs. Cold and filling the canvas.
This was today's, it was Hot vs. Cold, or Big vs. Details, or both. I just rolled with it. This shows my work space (although today it was on the opposite side of the room.) My teacher said it was good :) YAY
I have to go to Main Art and Lowes (or Pleasant's) tomorrow to pick up a few things, then on Wednesday I get to show my teacher what I want to do for the rest of the semester. I hope he lets me do what I'm proposing. I basically want to practice illustrative painting while also practicing dramatic lighting. And use Alencia as a model :P
And now for something Kale related, I had an epiphany during Bio Lecture and now I know how to fix my story! I also decided exactly how I want to the book to be bound (like a manga, not saddle stitched even though it's cheaper). So now I can story board the rest of Chapter 2 with nothing in my way! Except homework... I have to study Italian for a quiz tomorrow but they've never been terribly hard. I got a 90% on the last one :P So as a reward for studying I'll either storyboard or color the cover. We'll see, I may need food first :P

Kale Cover Progress #4
Tonight's coloring progress:
Finished the Temple area, might go back and shade the trees. Got the castle. Need to do the little flags.
Starting on the henchmen/hired help. I'm going to keep this area dark to match up with Alencia's space so that whole bottom area has the same visual weight. I plan on it getting brighter as it goes up, with Kale's colors being vibrant in the front.
It doesn't look like much progress but this took a few hours :< So I'm off to bed now.
Also while doing more research for Nekocon, I re-found this video from Seqalab's youtube channel. Its' about how to set up an artist alley table. This one has more AA info and testimonies. I found them pretty interesting/informative.

Kale Cover Progress #3
The coloring begins!
I'm still a bit under the weather today and tired so I just started coloring the cover tonight to see how far I could get. I colored Alencia and some of the Temple in front of her. I struggled a little bit with her facial lighting but I really like it for now.
Man I love drawing Alencia. I've also come up with some more of her spiritual powers and I'm very pleased with myself :B Now for bedtime. Goodnight!

Plans are in motion
So today Ryan and I decided that we want to release a book of 'Or Maybe Not' comics at Nekocon this year, along side my Kale graphic novel. We already have quite a collection of OMN comics from the past three years but we also have a pile of ideas for new ones. Plus there are a few past pages that I'd like to redo. So we're going to do it! I've posted the announcement on OMN's LJ, Facebook and my twitter account. I can feel my drawing mojo increase as I type XD
I sure do have a lot of work set up for myself but I couldn't be happier about it. My workload has been increasing here but I won't let that deter me from the real work. Comics! Speaking of work, I have some Italian to review for a quiz today. But I'll be drawing and coloring all night! Look out for progress shots coming soon!

Kale Cover Progress
I've been working on this since about 6pm. I just hope I can clean it up well after scanning it.
Trying to finalize a few secondary character designs too. Also working on fleshing out personalities/personal histories. SO MUCH FUN.
I had way too much fun doing this. I was really into the drawing and kind of lost myself in it. I just hope the quality of the paper doesn't hurt it (its' printer paper). I'm also completely in love with how Alencia came out <3

New Work Soon
Sorry for the lack of updates lately. I had a whole slew of tests at the end of last week, and then I was finally able to spend time with my fiance this weekend. Here's what I'm working on currently:
+Cleaning up Ch. 1 of Kale
I'm going to go back and physically clean up the line art for the chapter one pages, then re-scan them, digitally clean them up and add text. Then chapter one will be 100% done and I can fully move on to chapter two. I've been having some trouble tweaking chapter two but its' slowly coming along.
+New Cover for Kale
I've also been working on a new cover for my Kale comic book. I came up with some thumbnails over the weekend and I started a blue pencil drawing of it last night. It still needs some changes but every change brings it closer to my final vision. I also need to take the logo into account. I may change it to be more horizontal instead of the square shape it takes up now. Either way it's coming out much better than the boring cover I planned to use before. I'm also still considering if I'll use traditional or digital means to color it.
+ATCs
I've done some Artist Trading Cards of the Kale cast and I may do more/redo them. It was suggested that I sell prints of them as a set with the comic book, which I think would be neat, but I was planning to give a mini poster with each book. I haven't been doing many of them since I've been busy but they are nice to do being so small they don't take up much time at all.
+Nekocon 2010 Planning
I am still fanatical about planning for this con. It's my first AA so I've been stalking the site since last November and taking it very seriously. Between Christmas and my Birthday I've been able to save up some good amounts of money and I've done some serious planning for it. This will continue for the rest of the year.
+Nekocon Merch.
I've also been working on things that I will sell at Nekocon. Aside from the Kale comic book I'll have Lolita themed prints and hopefully bookmarks, con badges, more prints and commissions. I'm also considering putting some mini comics together and/or putting some of my other comic work together in a book of my original work. Depending on my printing budget we'll see how that goes.
I'm still really excited about what I'm working on. I'll have some progress shots of how things are going soon. Now if it wasn't for pesky school getting in the way :P

Comics and Charities!
One cool thing about being a comic artist, or an artist in general, is that you can lend your skills and services for good causes. One of my favorite good causes is 'Comics for Cures' which is a sketch-card auction that benefits the American Cancer Society. I participated in it last year and the auction raised a total of $6,000. What you do (or how it was last year, I'm still waiting for email confirmation regarding this since the website has limited information right now) is you send them your address via email, and they send you a set of blank sketch cards. You draw on the cards, send them back, and the cards are all collected together, showcased and auctioned off with all the proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. This year's show is on April 3rd, so be sure to send them in before that date!
Another good cause I heard about today from the Seqalab podcast is "Cat Odes"
"...Cat Odes is a comic anthology dedicated to helping out one of the worlds favorite house pets - the cat! The best part about this book is that a majority of the proceeds will be donated to ASPCA®!"
You can donate comic pages, having to do with cats and that are family friendly, and they will be published into the book. I'm going to try to give it a shot, my schedule permitting. The deadline is March 1st.
Let me know if anyone is going to participate in these! :D
