Boookmarks

My printer decided to work today, despite being it being low on ink. So I did some bookmark tests. I think I might have to rescan the images for it, I feel like I might have accidently cut off the tops of the Kale bookmarks. But I wanted to see how my card-stock printed and how the laminator worked with it all. I have to say I'm very pleased. The book marks are also smaller than I thought they would be so I think I'll offer them for a dollar each. I also need to figure out how to print my info on the back of them. That'll be another test.

Here's how they looked printed out and laminated, next to my $25 Walmart laminator. It's worked pretty well for me so far.

I cut them all up, one sheet each, right up to the edges. I was afraid that they would come undone but since they are heat laminated they seem to be pretty sturdy.

This was a nice break from school work. I also have brush pen practice drawings to finish and scan later. Basically I've been practicing in hopes to better control the brush pen when inking with it. Those will be coming soon!

And here are some cookies I made yesterday!

I may make some edits later and fill that empty space by Evander's head. But for now, its' done.

Glow

I spent a couple hours coloring and fixing illustrations for my summer class project. Hopefully I should finish them tomorrow. I also decided to finish up an Alencia picture that I was stuck on because I didn't know how to make a glowing effect. I finally figured it out and I have a finished result.

I'm pretty proud of it. It'll be a print at Nekocon if I can get a table. Speaking of which according to the Nekocon website they estimate AA table registration should open on the 8th of August. Cutting a bit close I think :/

I also tried to do a book mark test this evening and it turns out my printer is low on ink 9_9 I haven't even used it for anything color lately. Hopefully the ink cartridges aren't obsolete or too hard to find.

Tomorrow I'll be finishing school work and then hopefully finishing another illustration from my queue of 'things to finish coloring' that has been stacking up. I should have a good body of original prints and stuff for Nekocon soon. Also lots of work still needs to be done for both Kale and the 'Or Maybe Not' books before I can send them off to be printed. I'm excited to get it all done.

Bookmarks

I can be so forgetful at times.
I finished these book marks a while ago and forgot to post them. Mostly I'd like to know if anyone likes them? I planning on printing some up and laminating them for Nekocon. I was thinking of offering them for $2 or $3 (haven't settled on a final price yet) but I still have some printing/laminating tests to do. I'll most likely do those this weekend when I have my color printer back.

So here are the Kale bookmarks, featuring our baddy Xenla, our hero Kale, and our resident healer/exorcist Alencia. I'm also going to offer a free bookmark with the books I'll be selling. Buyer's choice.

I also drew up some Lolita ones but I'm not as in love with them as I am the Kale ones. I think I might just do the gothic and sweet ones but we'll see. Let me know which ones you like!

I think I'll add some text to these ones labeling what kinds of Lolita they are. Maybe add a ribbon or something on the ends of them too.
Please let me know what you guys think of them!

Also- Alencia cosplay photos to come later. My dad has to get them off of his camera, along with some reference photos I took recently, (I don't have my card reader and his is on his PC) but he said he'd get them on a disc for me soon. I also found boots for my costume which I'm really excited about. I just need to find some grey pants (decided leggings didn't quite work for me and her original design has pants anyway) or wait for the ones I saw at Target to go on sale. Also gotta work on more pouches and potion bottles.

More to come!

Alencia artwork, Donate button

Hey everyone!
I've been spending time with family recently but I've managed to get some character work done. Here's what I've got for today. (click images to make them bigger).

Rough sketches of Alencia and her sister Gertrude. I'm exploring their relationship and I will be drawing their parents soon. Alencia and Gertrude are close but Alencia can't help but feel like she's living in Gertrude's shadow and constantly being compared to her. This is part of why she feels that she needs to travel by herself to make her own way free of her mother's expectations (and her constant comparisons of the two sisters).

In the story I'm thinking of, Gertrude (who is an accomplished mage) makes a teleportation portal for Alencia to use to start her new journey and get her out of the house unnoticed. She ends up falling through the portal since she's never used one before :P

Possible 'summer' outfit for Alencia. I realized just about all my other characters have appropriate Winter/Summer clothing, save for her. I try to make such outfits practical. This is also the first time her hair will be put up :P
I'm looking forward to this story, it just needs a lot of work since it's really in the idea stage.

If you enjoy my artwork and you'd like to drop me a dollar or two, now you can! I have a paypal set up and it's open to donations. Every little helps, and with my senior year of college coming up and this summer class to pay for, I appreciate anything that is donated. Thank you! :)

I'll do some work for Kale soon, I promise ;_;

ATCs and Costumes

Hey everyone!
I've been home with my parents for a few days, spending time with them and working on goods for Nekocon. Today I managed to finish my half of an ATC trade with a good friend of mine.

My half:

Her character 'Talks,' a Corvid from WoD RPG.

Its' Alencia! :D I love it so much! I can't wait to trade them.

Speaking of Alencia I also found some bits and bobs for my costume of her that I'll be wearing to Nekocon. So far I've been able to find things at local thrift stores pretty well. I'm still on the hunt for leggings and boots, and fabric to make her sleeves.
I'll post photos when I have time to take/upload them. I'll also be working on her belt pouches. I need to draft a pattern and then sew them up.

I also entered a Mermaid Mascot contest for a group on Devianart.com. Here's my entry.

Comics and Cards

Things I've been up to lately in photo form...

WIP shot. Page 15 of Kale is finally inked. I'm really happy with how it came out. (You'll see later!)

Speaking of Kale, I started some bookmarks last night and finished them today. I am REALLY happy with how they came out. I planned on doing a group shot with the guys as the 4th bookmark. I may get to it later. Also planning on doing Lolita ones too. Lets see how that goes :P

WIP photo of the first 5 of my Burlesque card series. The finished scans are posted on my Deviantart page.

The three cards I finished yesterday with a commission I also finished yesterday; which is also posted on DA.

Also bought the hardcover edition of Blacksad! I'm so happy this finally came back into print. I was even more ecstatic when I realized that this isn't the first book, but ALL THREE OF THEM in one beautiful volume. Nerd heaven, I am there. Now I can read the third story and have all of them to reread and study :) I LOVE the watercolor work and expressions of the characters in these books. I HIGHLY suggest this to anyone who likes anthropomorphic characters/stories, or fans of noir detictive stories. Or fans of GOOD comics in general :P

I also decided to pick up a 0.1 copic refillable mulitliner pen. I have a set of the disposable ones (the affordable ones) and the 0.1 is the one I use the most often. I buy so many of the 0.1 Microns for sketching (really, I buy one or two whenever I go to Main Art) so this is definitely a cheaper investment.

Not only can you refill the ink but you can also replace the nibs! A great addition since I tend to ware out nibs before using all the ink. However, I wouldn't recommend getting the whole set of these since each pen is about $8 with the nib replacements being about $2 and some change, and the ink refills about $3 and some change. My purchase was about $16 with tax but it should last me, which is important. I won't bother getting any of the other pens like this since I don't use all of them near as much as I do the 0.1. The only one I would probably consider, later down the road, is the 0.05 since I've started using it more and I have nib concerns with those too.
