ART PLANS.

Hey guys! It's been a while but loads have been going on. Mostly busy at work. But now I'm starting to settle down a bit and I've got plans. ART PLANS.

+VA Comicon Small Press Table
You've been hearing me talk about this for a while but that's because I'm super stoked for it! My first table at a non-anime convention! I've been making plans for merch that I want to make and bring including the new Alencia comic, buttons, prints, and some other small items like key chains and book marks.

+Media Studies

There are things like animals and landscapes that I feel like I need to draw more of so I'll be doing a lot more studies to get in the swing of drawing them. For now I'm using certain sketchbooks for this as well as making ATC style cards that I'll be doing studies as miniature illustrations on. I'll be posting them to my tumblr and then grouping them here too. Here are a few so far:

+Or Maybe Not Webcomic

I've got scripts from Ryan lined up and am currently working on the next update. Looking to have it up by Friday since I have a few days off work. I'm going to try to update it as much as I can between now and VA Comicon since I plan on making post cards to pimp it out for the con. I also need to just sit down and draw more comics.

+Kale issue #2

Is still in progress! I've been rewriting an reworking things and I'm starting to think that I should do it as a one shot book like I originally planned but maybe start it over after all. I learned a lot from the first issue but the more I look back at it the more I see things I wish I had done differently. I'm going to keep working on it and when I come to a final decision I'll talk about it here. But either way Kale's story will continue.

+Alencia Comics (and Contest!)

Writing for Alencia's stories has been much easier. She comes more naturally to me than Kale so her stories will be more in number and varied. I really like working in short story/episodic format and I will continue that. I'm also really enjoying mixing horror with fantasy so that is a plus!
Alencia's first short comic will be featured at my table at VA Comicon and will feature FAN ART! I have a fan art contest running from now till August 4th, where anyone who sends me fan art for Alencia will be included in the book (with their name and information to their website) and will receive a free copy of the comic for themselves! Just send me a copy of your fan art (large file size, TIFF, 300dpi, I need it large so when I format the book it will print nicely and not be pixelated) to fran_rowan(at)yahoo(dot)com. Here are some references for your use:
-Alencia close up
-Alencia and Human!Theloyn height chart in color. Theolyn hasn't been introduced in his human version yet (he appears as a cat in the comic for now) but if you wish to draw him then by all means go for it :)
-Preview of the comic. Also for your inspiration here is the preview of the comic featuring the first 6 pages.
Also please keep fan art to PG-13. The comic isn't really rated but it's not really hardcore or anything. If you have any questions please let me know. I'll be sure to share the entries and their artists here too!

I'm also making jewelry that I'll be selling on my Etsy page soon so keep your eyes peeled for that! This post is epically long as it is so goodbye for now and stay tuned!

ATCs and Costumes

Hey everyone!
I've been home with my parents for a few days, spending time with them and working on goods for Nekocon. Today I managed to finish my half of an ATC trade with a good friend of mine.

My half:

LostReach ATC by ~Spork-Bunny on deviantART
Her character 'Talks,' a Corvid from WoD RPG.

Her half:

SporkBunny ATC by ~LostReach on deviantART
Its' Alencia! :D I love it so much! I can't wait to trade them.

Speaking of Alencia I also found some bits and bobs for my costume of her that I'll be wearing to Nekocon. So far I've been able to find things at local thrift stores pretty well. I'm still on the hunt for leggings and boots, and fabric to make her sleeves.
I'll post photos when I have time to take/upload them. I'll also be working on her belt pouches. I need to draft a pattern and then sew them up.

I also entered a Mermaid Mascot contest for a group on Devianart.com. Here's my entry.

Comics and Cards

Things I've been up to lately in photo form...

WIP shot. Page 15 of Kale is finally inked. I'm really happy with how it came out. (You'll see later!)

Speaking of Kale, I started some bookmarks last night and finished them today. I am REALLY happy with how they came out. I planned on doing a group shot with the guys as the 4th bookmark. I may get to it later. Also planning on doing Lolita ones too. Lets see how that goes :P

WIP photo of the first 5 of my Burlesque card series. The finished scans are posted on my Deviantart page.

The three cards I finished yesterday with a commission I also finished yesterday; which is also posted on DA.

Also bought the hardcover edition of Blacksad! I'm so happy this finally came back into print. I was even more ecstatic when I realized that this isn't the first book, but ALL THREE OF THEM in one beautiful volume. Nerd heaven, I am there. Now I can read the third story and have all of them to reread and study :) I LOVE the watercolor work and expressions of the characters in these books. I HIGHLY suggest this to anyone who likes anthropomorphic characters/stories, or fans of noir detictive stories. Or fans of GOOD comics in general :P

I also decided to pick up a 0.1 copic refillable mulitliner pen. I have a set of the disposable ones (the affordable ones) and the 0.1 is the one I use the most often. I buy so many of the 0.1 Microns for sketching (really, I buy one or two whenever I go to Main Art) so this is definitely a cheaper investment.

Not only can you refill the ink but you can also replace the nibs! A great addition since I tend to ware out nibs before using all the ink. However, I wouldn't recommend getting the whole set of these since each pen is about $8 with the nib replacements being about $2 and some change, and the ink refills about $3 and some change. My purchase was about $16 with tax but it should last me, which is important. I won't bother getting any of the other pens like this since I don't use all of them near as much as I do the 0.1. The only one I would probably consider, later down the road, is the 0.05 since I've started using it more and I have nib concerns with those too.

Sketch Dump #2- Life Drawing, ATCs and sketches

Guess who's scanner is working! 8D
(One NSFW drawing near the end of this post-male frontal nudity)

These were actually done a little bit before Christmas. I enjoyed drawing Alencia with the holly and honey nut cake. For some reason really old or traditional European takes on Christmas and Yule make me really cheery for the holidays. I think it's because there isn't any commercialism in imagining loved ones around a fire place enjoying traditional, simple food and each other's company.

Kale ATC set. The last one is actually incomplete as I have yet to decide on a back ground for it. Kale's card is actually painted with a bright bronze acrylic paint. I wanted a Byzantine feel to it. I was also going to write something on her flag but I may just leave it. Also for some reason I felt inclined to draw Evander, the usually bright and cheery bard, looking very sad. I'll have to do a happier one later to balance this one out.

Hanna ATCs by ~Spork-Bunny on deviantART
An ATC set I did for a comic artist, Tessa Stone, in honor of her comic "Hanna is not a boy's name." I LOVE this comic. FEIRCE.

My WWA character working as a Burlesque dancer. I was mainly testing out costume ideas. I went for a more vintage pin-up feel with her outfit here.

(NSFW) NUDE SOCA SKETCHES

I like this one a lot because its' the most precise out of the set for that night. It was done with .01 micron pen and no pencil. I also like that you can see the previous sketch through the paper, which was done with a brush pen. The pages of this sketchbook are very thin, but I like them.

While at home I started doing sketches of things in the room to fill a whole page with. This is my parents living room. (Like a collage sketch)

Artist Trading Cards

Hey everyone!
It's been a while since my last post here but between DA, FA, facebook, OMN LJ, and my VCU blog (which is also a summer blog now) I have a lot places to post art ^^;

Today I want to talk about Artist Trading Cards, or ATCs for short. It's this cool thing where you and someone else draw on a small card made of any paper you like and you trade them. It's a great way to have a piece of art from another artist without having to draw a huge picture. And it's so verstile, you can use collage, paint, markers, ink, have movable parts, cover it in resin, anything you want! Recently my good friend LostReach had an ATC trade set up that I participated in.

Today I received my half of the trade

Spork-Bunny ATC by *LostReach on deviantART
She drew my Scion:Hero character Ramla, and I LOVE IT!

My half of the trade was her steampunk villain 'Lady Chimera'

I've also been invited to participate in an ATC comunity on DA called ATC Fanatics I've got a few cards faved on their page and from there people can see what they like and talk to the artist who did them about trading that card. It's a great idea and I'm working hard on new cards. I've also got an OMN comic page to do today since I finished my paper early but I plan on finishing the Finley Manor crew photo portraits up and taking cool photos with them.

I'm off for now! I'll be back later with some arts C:
