Progress & Projects

School will be ending here in a few weeks (about six now I think?) so we all know what that means. FINALS. I'm hitting it into high gear and getting more work and studying for school done. I have some assignments that are kicking my butt but it needs to be done. I'm also determined to keep my grades up so it's officially crunch time. So in the meantime here are some things I've been working on lately.

+Kale
So far I've had time to finish page 15. I'm also making progress on the villain chibi picture.

+Free Time Art

Loli Fran Pink by ~Spork-Bunny on deviantART
My fursona in a Lolita dress. It was a great stress relief. Ruffles have a calming effect on me.

Holo ATC by ~Spork-Bunny on deviantART
ATC of Holo from Spice and Wolf. Didn't take long to make. I was looking up S&W season 2 trailers and merch.

+ATC Trades

WANTED- DEAD OR ALIVE by ~Spork-Bunny on deviantART
My half of a Steampunk Trade with my good friend SirO. I also have another trade with a friend of mine but I won't post my half until I give it to her~

+Class Work

Painting studies. Oil on gessoed watercolor paper.

Some glazing/light practice on the experimental canvas (used for class work, then we usually wipe it out at the end of the day). Here's the painting next to the photo I took for it. The whole point of the series will be to examine light being diffused through jars of colored water. I spent the weekend making little panels to paint the final series on. I'll be doing that soon along with the paper paintings.

It feels like I haven't gotten much done but looking at my stash of work here on my desk (and even unscanned sketches piling up) I have been able to do some work that makes me feel good. I do have to buckle down more in these next few weeks, and I will. College is serious bizniz.

Things I've been doing lately

A drawing I started over Spring Break of the villainous crew from my comic. Chibis are dangerously fun.

Decided to draw Alencia as a school girl sorcerer. Lots of fun. But her feet got cut off :<

Started this before Spring Break and I really like where it's going. The back ground is down town Charlottesville. I used a few online photos for references (all from different seasons) since I didn't have my own. I've been there a few times but never taken photos. I will take some next time I go. These are me and Ryan's fursonas, a little gift for him.

A rough sketch of a scene where the assassin guy (calling him Ka'lai for right now) is giving Kale a warning. Their daggers/knives turned out too short for my liking. I'll be sure to work on that when it comes up in the story. I think Kale's head is too big too D8 This is why roughs are good for practice...

For now I'm working on a few ATCs for actual trades, then hopefully some comic pages soon. Also got to refine some pictures for Nekocon prints and some other pictures. Also ordered some Copic marker ink to be delivered to my parent's house so I'll get that next time I'm in town. 8D New supplies are always exciting!

Comics for Cures 2010

I just finished my Comics for Cures sketch cards for this year. I'll be sending them out this week. Comics for Cures is a charity where artists donate sketch cards that they've made and they are then auctioned off to benefit the American Cancer Society. It's a great way for artists to give to the community, especially if you can't spare any cash, you can spare a little time to make some art. They provide the sketch cards for you, you just draw on them and send them back.

Here are the ones I did for 2009:

After sending these ones out I saw some that other artists had done their entries in color and I vowed to color them from here on out; mainly because I think they may be more desirable at the auction. At least I'm hoping so. I do think these ones had a certain charm to them. I wonder who ended up with them. Especially Black Sad and Harley, they were my favorites.

Stuffy-Headed Girl

I've been sick since about Friday/Saturday but now its' really hitting me hard. And I am without Dayquill or Nighquill ;_;
I finished my Bio Lab homework early tonight so I allowed myself and hour and a half on Ps to work on the Kale cover. My head is stuffed up and gross so coloring Khalid was all I could handle right now.

I also did this while watching Tessa Stone on Ustream. Very fun :B She has fun music too.

I need spring break. Right now. Three more days to go... I CAN DO IT! maybe...

This past week

So I've been pretty busy lately. Mostly fretting un-nessisarily about classes. I was also a bit sick this weekend, but despite all that, here's what I've been up to.

+Kale- I actually got a couple pages of Chapter 2 story boarded after figuring something out with the direction of the story. I started penciling page 15 last night but I'm not sure when it will be finished. Probably this weekend as I have an Italian test this Thursday to prepare for.

+OMN- The scripts have been flying in! Ryan is really on a roll with the new pages. Now I just have to draw them. I'm thinking about devoting spring break, which is in about two weeks, to belting them out. Here's a WIP photo of a pin up I was working on for the book. It'll make more sense later :P They are basically in comic D&D characters. We love D&D senario jokes.

+Painting class- I have to do lots of painting studies for class. My last class resulted in nothing noteworthy (but I did learn a lot!) But the class before that I did this painting. When we finish a painting we wipe it away and end up with a pashina on the canvas.

The objects for this painting were a robot earring and a purple d8.

We also have to come up with ideas to do a series of paintings for the rest of the semester. I want to experiment with lighting, atmosphere, and portraiture a bit. I also want to use Alencia as my subject :P Here are the studies I have so far, I'm working on more.

Overall I'm really excited about the projects and progress I'm making. My painting teacher reenforced my belief that I am improving and most importantly I'm learning. It feels so good to learn and not worry about if my finished product is a beautiful work of art. It's like dancing and not worrying about if you look like a fool or not. Then I can take what I've learned and make some beautiful art with it. It's times like this it makes me feel good to be an artist. The only thing I don't like is having to lug my painting supplies around :P
